STUDENTS GUIDE FOR WEB CASES 

Students have an option for completing web-based cases (identified by the Clerkship Directors and listed below) for selected Domain/Patient Type/Core Conditions as described in “Clinical Encounter Table 2 Core Content in Pediatrics requiring Clinical or Simulated Learning Experience”. The following are the links for cases referenced in Core Content (Table 2) in pediatrics requiring clinical or simulated learning experience (ED2)

Item 6. Upper Respiratory Tract: Each student has to see at least one real patient (Full participation Hx, PE & CR).  It is also required that each student reviews the web based case “Electric Airway” in its entirety and study the cases, review anatomical and radiographic findings of the four cases described therein and then answer the questions for case studies no 1 through 6. Item 10. Central nervous system: Each student has an option to complete the web based case (Meningitis, University of Hawaii) in case a real patient was not seen. 6 year old with meningitis

Item 11. Emergent Clinical problem: Each student has an option to complete the web based case (Case #8 Virtual Pediatric Hospital site) in case a real patient was not seen.

Item 12. Chronic Medical problem: Each student has an option to complete one of the two web based cases (KU Medical Center Congenital Heart disease or Case #4 Virtual Pediatric Hospital site in case a real patient was not seen.

Item 13. Unique condition: Fever without localizing findings: Each student is required to either see two real patients in this category or complete one simulated case besides seeing one real patient (Full participation Hx, PE & CR).   Simulated case is Web Case #7 Virtual Pediatric Hospital site). A child with fever

For each of the web based exercise which is completed as a clerkship requirements students are expected to review education material, answer any quiz and then submit a print out to the Clerkship Director to document that the case has been completed.  Completion of a case should also be noted in Pediatric Clerkship Portfolio.
