Constipation in children: This is a statement published by North American Society for Pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. The American Academy of Pediatrics endorses and accepts as its policy the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Position Statement, "Constipation in Infants and Children: Evaluation and Treatment" (as of 3/19/06). The file has two algorithms to assist with medical management, one for older infants and children and the second for infants less than one year of age. The guidelines provide recommendations for management by the primary care provider, including evaluation, initial treatment, follow-up management and indications for consultation by a specialist. Childhood Asthma-Update: This report provides students with recommendations for the diagnosis and management of asthma. These recommendations are organized into four components of therapy:

1)    measures of assessment and monitoring,

2)    control of factors contributing to asthma severity,

3)    pharmacologic therapy, and

4)    education for a partnership in asthma care.

The 2002 Report is an update of the 1997 “Expert Panel Report 2: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma.” The recommendations are based on the available scientific literature and the consensus of the expert panel coordinated by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).The American Academy of Pediatrics endorses and accepts as its policy the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program Expert Panel Report: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma-Update on Selected Topics.
